FORKS
Home of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight book series, situated on a broad prairie about 14 miles from the ocean. You’ll find many restaurants, shops and services in this friendly rural community. Near the south edge of town you’ll find the Visitor information Center, the Forks Timber Museum and the Loggers Memorial with its 12 foot tall carved logger.
LA PUSH
Home to the Quileute Tribe Those who visit La Push come for whale watching in the spring; surfing, fishing, and hiking in the summer; and storm watching in the fall and winter.
FIRST BEACH
Offers a view of James Island, has a mile long crescent known for surfing –size waves and great whale watching from February through April. Kayakers, surfers and seals often add to the view. Are you a “Twilight” fan? First Beach is where Bella first learned of the “Cold Ones”.
SECOND & THIRD BEACH
Just east of La Push is Second Beach. Popular with photographers and is reached by way of a .7 mile forest trail that leads to a 2-mile long sandy stretch of beach. Third Beach is a mostly level 1.5 mile trail through second growth forest.
HOH RAIN FOREST
is a not to be missed attraction on the West Side of the Olympic Peninsula. Twelve miles south on Hwy 101 and nineteen miles inland from Hwy 101, you’ll find the Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center. The Hoh Valley receives an average of 140 inches of annual rainfall. There are several trails that offer an easy stroll and give a great sampling of the area. The Hoh Visitor Center is also a great starting point for longer and more challenging hikes to alpine meadows and glacier fields.
CAPE FLATTERY
Head to the most Northern tip of the continental US. Visible from the point is the Cape Flattery Lighthouse on Tatoosh Island, built in 1858. Visit the internationally-known Makah Museum. Mach Indian artifacts more than 500 years old are preserved and displayed at the Makah Museum in Neah Bay.
SOL DUC FALLS
Twenty-seven miles northeast of Forks turn southeast on Sol Duc Hot Springs Rd and follow it for 12 miles. The Sol Duc area offers several hiking trails. For a short hike, try Sol Duc Falls, a 1.6-mile round trip hike that wanders through the forest to a cascading waterfall.
